Fun Video Alert!!

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

It seems there is more and more really fun video content popping up on the web. I tend to bump into these things accidentally - too bad it is just accidental! There is no system yet (like TV) for offering the “good stuff” when I want it, on the topic I want. Better yet, why couldn’t I get great people to create stuff for me as I need it. Perhaps that is where we are headed. Ah well — for the time being, at least I can share these little gems with a topic to track them (cool video).

In this case, it is a video of a presentation by Malcolm Gladwell (author of The Tipping Point and Blink). Malcolm tells a good story about how stupid we are. Well, ok that is a bit harsh. I meant to say he describes the current and widespread ”mismatch” between job selection and performance criteria — believe me it is fun.

His conclusion is quite provocative — that we are infatuated with objective measures without any sense of how to build normative standards. A suggested course for legislative drafters? Anyway, what are the performance criteria for a good professional legislative drafter??? Damned if I know!
