Unusual Relationships

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

I am doing a one day course today for my client Dimela, on empowering communication. As I get ready, my mind is focused on this question - what makes relationships truly great? So that both sides are enriched beyond the sum of individual capacities? One finds a certain synergy in these great relationships. And it is rare. I was reminded of this today, as I read about Lee’s relationship with Jackson and Davis.

FOLLOW -  Another example of a relationship that suddenly blossomed based on synergy - former Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni and his rookie guard sensation Jeremy Linn.  D’Antoni’s system needed a fast paced and free wheeling point guard and Jeremy Linn fit perfectly into the role. But it did not fit the playing styles of the Knicks superstars. Guess who will adapt? D’Antoni resigned and as  NYT reports, the era of Linsanity at the Garden may be over. Worse still, without this relationship, Linn career is now in question. Why? He is just a rookie and he needs time and protection to develop. Without a strong relationship like the one he had with D’Antoni, Linn may not find room to develop.
