Friday’s tidbits
Berlusconi’land? - The Economist tries to figure out why the Italian Prime Minister is so popular.
Fighting Gets More Serious - The Pakistani military is trying to re-take Buner. One officer expects one week of heavy fighting. Will the Pakistani people rally around the millitary — or the insurgents?
China, the Next Bubble? - Vitaliy Katsenelson offers some good arguments why the apparently quick recovery in China is not really a recovery at all.
A New Way of Thinking about Talent- Malcolm Gladwell started this off with his book Outliers — now as Dave Brooks reports, other researchers/writers/thinkers (including Dan Coyle — a “cool friend” of Tom Peters) argue that “talent” is nothing more than the result of a good starting point and enlightened practice. Dan Coyle runs a fun blog called “The Talent Code“. I would check it out jut to watch the embedded videos — an amazing guitar player from Korea and a guy who rides bikes on spiky fences in Scotland.
Do you like Movies? - Then you should follow the Criterion Contraption - a blog by Mathew Dessem. He is more than a film aficionado. He gets into movies the way a great chef gets into food. Very fun!
