Wednewday’s Tidbits

Terje and the Dance of Democracy - A tidbit from India by Terje. Tomorrow the national elections take place. Candidates (or parties?) give committed voters a shoe and after they vote they get the second shoe  Interesting.

Sanders Says … Be Ironic - I liked this post by Sanders on the “rules of irony”. Better yet I liked the link to John Hodgman’s very funny TED talk. Hmmm … I can hear readers thinking that I might pay more  attention to these rules.

And if you don’t Want to be Funny? - Then at least have a good laugh with John Hodgman who seems a bit obsessed with aliens and rectal probes. The link takes you directly to John’s TED presentation.

Linking Cities around the Wòrld? - Fred Wilson clued me into DYICity, a site for people interested in improving their local environment. This looks like an interesting forum and I will open up a discussion for Tartu.

Remembering Alex Lees - Many people enjoyed the movie “The Great Escape” where a group of Allied prisoners tunnelled out of a German prisoner of war camp. But how to conceal the dirt coming out of the tunnels? In the real story, Alex Lees had the answer. Alex just passed away at age 97. NYT tells his great story. Here is a link to YouTube where you can see the trailer for the movie. BTW, the movie itself is also on YouTube.

A problem with Online Business Models - They are mostly based on advertising revenue, right? But do you really like to see thumbnail ads on web pages? Writing for Giga, Brian McConnell thinks the problem is that these ads were not made by people who know how to sell. With better ad delivery, people might like to see ads.
