How To Value Mentoring

An interesting debate is brewing about the value of Y Combinator. Sarah Lacy at TechCrunch questions whether Y Combinator deserves its rep. VC Fred Wilson  defends it. The funny thing is that both sides agree that the Y Combinator model is valuable — the argument is over “how much” one should pay for the service.

My take — The ultimate value of the Y Combinator model will be demonstrated in how frequently and well it is copied — so that its success can be multiplied. That would be beyond the tech world, and beyond the stand alone start up model.

In other words, building a Y Combinator vocabulary for the rest of us. Let’s see if this happens.
