Thinking about Rome

William Murray wrote a very nice book about Rome called “City of the Soul“. It is a travel book with a personal touch that invites a warm connection to the things Murray loved. Here is how Murray starts his chapter about the Piazza Navonna

I once became involved in a heated discussion with a friend who lived in Paris concerning the relative merits of Paris and Rome. The French capital, he maintained, had among its many other virtues, the most beautiful open spaces in the world — the Place Vendome, The Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries and half a dozen other justly celebrated spots. All I said to him was “Piazza Navonna”. He paused, stunned, then looked at me and smiled “You win” he said. “God’s Waiting Room”.

Nice touch.

But what about eating? Mattbites offers a nice post entitled “How not to behave like a glutton in Rome”. Here is the link. I think that Matt captures the flavour of the thing.
