Afghanistan and COIN Lite
Dave Brooks offers an interesting way of looking at the Obama Administration’s re-think of Afghanistan strategy. Obama has bought into the “COIN” approach, but will tinker with it to fit policy realities. The key to this is giving reasons for local authorities to fight. My take — this implies neutering Kabul’s ability to dominate in favor of a patchwork of semi-autonomous regions. Karzai and his pals should fade into irrelevance.
