More on Apple, Amazon and Api’s

Next week Apple Computer is about to unveil its new tablet. One of the features is likely to be a “bundle” of content that you can subscribe to —Magazines, newspapers, etc. This is likely to be part of the inventory that you can download from yet another Apple api store. How do I know? Who doesn’t know by now.

Meanwhile, Apple’s main competitor in the tablet business, Amazon, is already opening up its Kindle to allow developer apps. WSJ writes this snarky article about it. NYT offers some insights about the Amazon api store for Kindle in its Bits blog.

It is all part of the api platform/revolution. Apple started it, but other companies are slowly starting to realize that it is easier and more profitable to build a platform and share the add-on revenue with developers who offer new functions and other stuff, than to try to build everything yourself.

Yet another reason why you should teach your child how to programme. There’s money in them gadgets!

Based on the recent history of the iPhone, i won’t be going out to buy the first tablet. I’m gonna wait for the second variation and the price to drop. Knowing Apple I won’t have to wait too long. I’d love to know many people had buyers guilt after going to buy the first version
