Kitchen Update - Wood Burning Stove
A while ago I started a thread about moving a computer into my kitchen. I was curious whether this would improve my daily cooking routine. I discovered that using Google docs and calendar can make it a lot easier to work with recipes, develop shopping lists, and share ideas. It has been great fun, and I am now sharing some recipes with my chef guru friend, Nico. So far I have gained the most, as Nico shared with me his bombastic recipe for a 250 blueberry cheesecake.
But a more important issue came up. We have had a very, very cold spell here for a few weeks. It was so cold that my gas heater started to have a hard time keeping up. So I started looking at the old wood burning stove in the kitchen in a new light. It is a soviet era construction, though I was told that the workmanship was most likely done by someone from the first independence time. In other words, it is a solid thing.
So, I unloaded all the junk from the cooking surface, including a microwave, some plates, the charging system for a portable blender, and … my laptop. I fired up the old stove. It was seriously nice! Warm! And then I started to cook on the surface. It was kind of tricky to get the temperature right, but I am sold on this too.
Meanwhile, I moved the laptop to the breakfast room, thinking that it was close enough to use almost as easily. Surprise. It doesn’t. Funny how just a few meters makes such a big difference in daily routines.
