Core Recipe - Lee Bailey’s Turnip Custard

Some Sunday Tech Fun in the Kitchen

I haven’t posted for a while about my kitchen computer. But don’t let that fool you. The little gizmo has been hard at work, making my cooking life more fun and easy. One of the things I am doing with it is to add to my core recipe list. These are the things that I want to make on a regular basis — and get really good at.

To actually do that, I need to have several routines down pat: (1) the ingredients list, (2) shopping, (3) cooking methods, and (4) results. BTW, I also need to track where this fits into my cooking calendar. And yup, each of these fits into a google doc or spreadsheet that I can access in my kitchen computer (and in the store when I get around getting a smart phone).

My Google calendar tracks my plans and results for using core recipes. My shopping list incorporates the ingredients. And I have a special Google doc for each core recipe with ingredients and methods — that I add notes to each time I make the dish. I can share these docs and notes with friends too.

This is really cool.

The latest addition - Lee Bailey made an interesting turnip custard that he says goes very well with fish (Lee Bailey’s Country Weekends, page 156). Hmmm ….. I uploaded the recipe and ingredients list onto a Google doc (and BTW I shared this with my friend Nico). Next, I need to insert the ingredients into my shopping schedule and cooking calendar. I’ll keep you posted.
