The Great Armenian Shoe Discovery
Archaeologists are an odd lot, poking around holes looking for ancient underwear and such. And today, they are exuberant. They have found the oldest leather shoe that has been yet discovered. It was in a cave in Armenia somewhere. This quote sums up the story
Reaching down, (Diana Zardaryan) touched two sheep horns, then an upside-down broken bowl. Under that was what felt like “an ear of a cow,” she said. “But when I took it out, I thought, ‘Oh my God, it’s a shoe.’ To find a shoe has always been my dream.”
Well, one must have a dream. Ötsi the Iceman also was wearing leather shoes when his ancient dried out corpse was revealed on a melting glacier. Later it was discovered that he had been murdered. But more important, his shoes are 300 years younger than the great Armenian specimen
So bravo! Here is a link to the full story. Oh. There is only one, and it is a size 7.
