Networks that Pay

I got a jolt today reading GigaOm today. The jolt came from Om Malik’s reporting on a business model from Mintel that uses on line networks. It  builds on the “platform” craze for generating traffic on a site. But this model allows for more user control to buy and sell, and adds revenue streams. I agree with Om that we will hear a lot more about this approach to building paying networks (called crowdsouring).

I saw another example of this using istockphoto — a platform that allows you to sell and buy photos using on line credits from the site. Cool.  One of the things I like about the istockphoto approach is that on line credits make it even easier to buy and sell.

A quick Google search for “crowdsourcing” gives a ton of info and examples of business models based on the idea.
