Aha Newt! Gotcha!
Some Saturday fun!
Every now and then, I get lucky. I bump into an argument on the net that cries out for a rebuttal. And I get the rebuttal. The latest example relates to good old Newt Gingrich, trying to figure out how to stay in the running for the republican party nomination for the presidency even though he keeps losing primary contests.
Newt makes the argument that if he is elected president, he could bring down gas prices to $2.50 per gallon from the $4 range where they are now and create a ton of jobs doing so. Here he is, Newt Gingrich, doing what the Newtster does .
Hmmm … but could a shift in US policy actually affect gas prices? Paul Krugman say, “you must be joking.“ Right on point, and a link that popped up accidentally. Hmmm … at least I think it was an accident.
And BTW, what about the idea that building pipelines will bring down unemployment? Exxon is running a lot of TV ads that make the claim. Well, according to Paul, that is also more amusing than based in any realistic policy thinking.
Well, that’s that. Harumph! Now I can drink my morning coffee in peace.
