Gamestop’s Interesting Pivot
Gamestop was in trouble. It sells used console games. But as more and more people download their games - retail outlets like Gamestop look like dinosaurs. So what to do?
Gamestop made a couple of very cool business decisions. First, it doubled down on its core value. Its Gamestop’s retail outlet network. It has the stores, but just needs to get people in them. Second it started looking for what would drive traffic to its stores.
Here is the idea - the tablet market is exploding. Which means a new market for buying and selling used tablets may develop. If you could buy up used tablets online (like ebay), refurbish what you buy and re-sell them loaded with great games in your retail outlets — you might get people excited enough to come to your stores.
And that is what Gamestop is doing. Very cool.
