QuickFinance - Intel — igent Stock Pick?

For those of you who still have some money left — Sooner or later you have to put it somewhere other than under your mattress. So where?  Next year may be a good time to start bottom fishing for physical assets. But I think it is a bit early to do it now. My best bet would be stock picking. Smart stock picking.

One potential play might be Intel. Why? My bet is that the world is about to move from internal combustion to electric cars. The story that Tom Friedman picked up a week ago on how this might happen has been kicking around for a while, and I think it is credible. BTW, the conventional wisdom is that poor battery performance will prove too big a barrier to for electric cars to take over.

Assuming that the conventional wisdom is wrong, I am looking for companies that are poised to cash in on the switch over. Hmmmm …. if poor battery performance is a problem, a company that upgrades battery performance could be interesting. But what company has the combination of guts, capital, and technical know how to do this well?

Enter stage left —  a story from Giga today that Intel may be getting ready to invest heavily in the automobile battery business. More interesting still —  Intel already has some significant investments there. Most interesting, according to Giga, Andy Grove is pushing to get a decision that car batteries are Intel’s future.

Now that would be news.
