Tech - The Rebellion against WMG
Interesting post form TechCrunch on the “food fight” that is brewing after Warner Bros. Group (WMG) insisted that its music products cannot be used on YouTube videos. Videos with WMG owned music are being muted or taken down, and some users are posting rather angry video responses. BTW, they are rude, but kind of fun to watch.
To be blunt — I think this is part of the slow burning fire that will eventually wipe out the music industry as we have known it. Sure WMG hs copyrights. But as they spend more and more effort trying to protect those rights, they drift further and further away from their customers — who keep trying to tell them that they want new products.
For a vision of where customers may want to go, check out A VCwhere Fred Wilson is having a great time putting together a “community powered playlist” for vocalists who have mastered “primal scream”.
So why can’t WMG play nice?
